Education as an institution murders

What would be a less condescending way to say I’m not going to college? It’s as if not attending this money made institution is not attending life or something? What happened to people coming together and simply sharing knowledge? What happened to stimulating conversation outside of the classroom?

My roomate even admits that she’s a “Grade whore.” All educational efforts only to obtain the masterful “A”. And meanwhile she finds hours for her television shows ranging from One Tree Hill to the unforgiving Gossip Girl, which is all just one big soap opera. Really? Is this our future? People learning things just to be a reflection of intelligence? Forking loads of pop culture and entertainment into brains to make it appear nice and plump?

I have surely submitted to the role. I attend my classes dutifully and on time. Crossing all my I’s and dotting all my T’s. Or the other way around? Institution does not equal intelligence, it supplies an organized location that is occupied with people with different perspectives and professors with different handfuls of knowledge. I don’t agree with the belief that it is necessity for everyone to know the chemical formula of rubber, but, I can say that I enjoy the constant inputing of information and am enjoying this place.

A friend of mine emailed me this video and dare I mention that I fell in love. Fell in love with this curly haired gentleman’s passion. And if passion can be felt through video cameras, through the intricacies of youtube, to my plain computer screen, then I can’t be upset with technology at all.

His voice is so raw. And this raw factor seems to be filtered from the mainstream waves of entertainment. How? What is this undiscovered fellow, like so many other talented artists, missing? Why aren’t talent agencies being as receptive as I to this artist?

This article can be seen as something similar to an advertisement? What it really makes me want to do is purchase this $11 dollar book because Jane Brody makes this book’s read to be a quick fix to answer all food issues of America. What more must we tell our citizens in order for them to truly understand? How many diet books, PETA files, global warming issues to we have to read about to realize that the production of American meat is causing American life spans to dissipate. Who knows. Maybe this book is it, this is the last eater’s manual one must dive into, here is eleven dollars to American progression.

Superbowl 2010

February 7, 2010 provides another day for the famous Super Bowl Sunday. I must admit, the only reason it is a big deal for me is the party that collects not only football fans but their aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters, second cousin’s neighbor, and so on. If the climax of all that is football isn’t enough, this american sport brings together some of the best athletes, their fans, and their friend together to spend a day of chips and beer. 200,000 million dollars were spent last year on the commercials alone. This festivity leads me to believe that America is not poor at all.

And when I stood at the bus stop today in the pouring rain, and saw a woman who looked like she came straight from vietnam staring straight up to the sky embracing the pellets of gross LA rain, she led me to strongly feel this great appreciation. I imagined people in different parts of the world, who may not have the same comforts of a fireplace like many many LUCKY Americans. We were born in America, and think like Americans, and get upset when we can’t buy the latest ipads. But how amazing is it, that we get the pointless pleasure of watching men run around in tight clothes playing such a fun sport. The Superbowl is luxury at it’s finest.

Potato peas

I sat amongst a bundle of friends over dinner when one burst out in laughter. We all looked at him, then at each other, then back at the gentlemen who’s food went from plate, to mouth, back to plate.  “Are you okay?” “You ever notice there are no women Iron Chefs?! They aren’t even the best at the thing they are supposed to do in this world.” Though the necessesity to splatter food because of his sudden revelation is questionable, his comment did remind me of recent class discussions. This idea that women and men have directed specialties are everywhere from newspaper articles to television advertisements and follow us all the way to the dining table. Slowly though, women and men are intermingling passions and we are sure to find the peas mixing with the mashed potatoes on our dining plates.

RiP A Remix Manifesto

This documentary is amazing. Tackles the question of copyright and imposes it as a question to people who weren’t even aware of the issue. I guess that’s the point of documentaries, ey. Brett Gaylor basically brings up the issue of copyright and what it is exactly. He shows how copyright is dampening the expression of art and is making us stagnent in a world that demands growth. Shows us the conflict between media and the money market and how the ability to express thyself can be controlled by a desire for that cash money.

Beer vs. Shoes

Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. The book has never fallen upon my gaze but the message has been made crystal clear to us through actions and advertisments displayed by the media. This commercial for Heineken is a prime example of the sterotypes for the different desires between man and woman. The love of beer versus the love of shoes. But, Michael Jordan has more then 1,500 pairs of shoes. Is there another part of this commercial that has missed the airwaves?

Kobe & Lebron Puppets?

Nike takes two of the most popular nba stars of this decade and creates a mini advertisment that embelishes the attractiveness of these players and portrays them as hip hop artists in a glamorous fashion. Kobe and Lebron rap while playing a pick up game in basketball with old saint nick and his reindeers.  This brings a light humor to the game that creates a bond with the advertisement and the consumer using the approach of laughter. Lupe Fiasco is featured in this commercial because Nike identifies the influence that Lupe has in the hip hop industry that does stretch across a wide audience that ties to the NBA.

Heart to Haiti

Land that lies oceans away could feel the tremble caused by the earth quake that hit haiti with a 7.0 magnitude. Felt not by the tremble of the earth, but of the shivers of the heart. Americans, Japanese, Israelis, all oceans away, could feel the catastrophe because the media is able to portray flashes of the devastation that wiped out nearly 100,000. Haiti, many hearts are stretching your way.  My little brother lost his tooth today and asked the tooth fairy to send the money to Haiti.

Reality a fallacy?

Being one without a television set plugged into any outlet in my apartment, I depend on hulu for my entertainment from time to time. Family Guy is the main drive for my constant attachment to the site and being Monday, my next fix was about to take place. But behold, in the header of hulu a promotion for “The Bachelor” was big and bold! I remember watching this show like a love sick puppy in highschool wishing Alex and Trista would just work it out. So I clicked the button that proceeded me to “watch now” and I realized instantly how much I’ve grown. Reality shows are not necessarily realistic and it took a set of 25 women to all say they loved a man instantly for me to understand the unrealistic nature of this television show. It could be his cheeky american smile, morals, and fun love that made all women desire this pilot instantly. But does it seem like the cameras pivoting around dizzy them from sanity? Dizzy the viewer from sanity? I can understand the popularity of this show, but, I rather go on a merry-go-round.
